Classes

Monday is a very long day. I have 3D Fashion Studio which is a draping class and looks like it will be a bit more experimental which excites me. This is a "spiral drape". We took a square meter of fabric (hard to adjust to metrics as a fashion student...kind of important) and we cut it into a spiral and draped on the dress form. This is what I came up with today and my homework is to continue experimenting and sketching and gathering inspiration....not too shabby an assignment.
What I came up with today is very simplistic in the front and just the opposite in the back. All day I was thinking it is kind of like a mullet...business in the front and party in the back.

Everything is closed here on Sundays....but I ended up having a rather exciting Sunday. I went for brunch and after brunch walked around the Champselysee as everything happens to be open there. I was roped into visiting and fabulous and famous macaroon place L'Aduree, I didn't have my camera but they don't even let you take pictures. I don't even think I normally like macaroons but they were wonderful.

Saturday Supply Shopping

So I went supply shopping with a couple of friends and found some great art supply shops. One more fabric called Shop Text another called Rougier & Plé and we dodged in and out of many other small shops as well. I have a whole list of places I need to go including a very promising small vintage shop.
The outfit I wore shopping were high-waisted madewell jeans which I am newly in love with, a vintage cropped sweater, and michael kors over the knee boots. Simple but good for a day of errands and walking. The bag on my desk has become my everyday bag because despite it's crazy colors and pattern it kind of goes with everything and livens up the camel coat I have been wearing. The notebooks were my purchases. My only slight splurge was a Moleskin Planner...but hey it will keep me organized!

Outside of my apartment

So this is the outside of where I live in a lovely neighborhood! This is the elevator in the downstairs of my apartment which I rarely use cause I only live up a couple floors.

Today I had Creative Knitting which was a very small class taught by a French professor and looks like it is going to be very interesting and fun. THe class is sponsored and so we could order an unlimited amount of yarn. The pictures from the finals from last year's class are quite incredible and unique knitted sweaters or tops.
I also had Entrepreneurship for Designers. The teacher has a strictly business education but went into a bit of fashion when she began selling gloves. We will have to develop a business plan over the course of the class and attempt to get buyers....fo real! Sounds really awesome and she lent me the Book Beautiful Fall. It is about the rise of entrepreneurial designers Karl Lagerfeld and Yves St. Laurent by Alicia Drake and promises to be a good read, for the fact that Karl Lagerfeld had it banned in France...Ohhh King Karl.

So I bought my first french magazine the other day to read on my long subway rides and there was a music suggestion for this group called "Brigitte" so I youtubed them and ended up really like them. I love their style in the this informal I guess you could say music video and the candy shop it looks like they are in.
" What you get by reaching your goals, is not nearly as important, as what you become, by reaching them."

Quote shared with me by my brother. Being in Paris may help me reach my goals someday but being here is a learning experience in itself, trying to mesh with another culture. Very exciting and a bit unnerving at times.
