Felting
So in Surface Treatments we have done Batik, Fabric Painting, and now are starting felting. There are three types of felting we were introduced to, Nuno Felting, Needle Felting and Wet Felting. Wet Felting is taking wool fibers and turning it into felt yourself by rubbing it against a mesh like surface and is pretty labor intensive. Needle felting you take a wool fiber based material and can needle felt in other fabrics along with wool. Nuno felting is done on silk chiffon and creates an amazing effect when washed because the wool fibers shrink the chiffon causing it to gather and pucker. I have chosen to do Needle Felting on a camel color based fabric and will be incorporating geometric laces, copper thread, pops of colored fabrics and hopefully some discs and hardware to go along with the technologic and gear theme that has been my take on the "revolution of a tradition" of lace. These are my materials and small samples thus far.
